The person behind the care
About Laura
Laura Mata López believes that our stories are shaped by more than symptoms. They carry our families, cultures, communities, losses, transitions, identities, and everything we have lived through along the way.
She believes meaningful mental health care begins by making room for all of it. Laura strives to create a space where people can show up as their full selves, feel genuinely seen and heard, and know that who they are matters just as much as what they are going through.

Her Approach
Culturally responsive, collaborative care
Laura's care is collaborative, culturally responsive, and grounded in deep respect for the person in front of her. She combines evidence-based medication management with therapeutic interventions, psychoeducation, and shared decision-making while recognizing that people are the experts in their own lives. Laura listens with curiosity and humility, learning what matters most to each person and working alongside them toward care that reflects their values, goals, culture, and lived experience. As an immigrant from Costa Rica, Laura understands how culture, identity, family, and major life transitions can shape the way someone experiences both mental health and healthcare. Her journey has strengthened her commitment to creating spaces where people who have felt unheard, misunderstood, or excluded can experience something different: belonging.
Laura's work has also extended beyond traditional clinical spaces into churches, community centers, health fairs, and neighborhood events. Those experiences have reinforced something she carries into every room: healing does not happen in isolation. Relationships and communities matter. So does making mental health care feel accessible, human, and safe enough to talk about.
Outside of the clinic, Laura finds joy in connection, gathering around a table with family and friends, trying new restaurants, traveling, and exploring new places and cultures. When she needs to recharge, she heads outside. Her perfect free day is a long hike, fresh air, no screens or schedules, and her three-legged dog, Maggie, by her side.
Laura knows healing is rarely linear. What stays with her are the moments when someone recognizes their own strength, reconnects with themselves or others, or takes a step they once believed was impossible. Those moments remind her that resilience is often already there, we sometimes just need the space, support, and connection to find our way back to it.
