The person behind the care
About Rabea
Rabea Ilahe is drawn to the moments when hope feels hardest to find. She believes that even when someone cannot yet see a way forward, one still exists, and sometimes healing begins with having someone beside you who believes that, too.
Growing up, Rabea witnessed the stigma surrounding mental illness and the ways it could keep people silent or prevent them from seeking care. It drew her toward a field where answers are not always simple and where understanding someone requires more than a test, a diagnosis, or a list of symptoms. For Rabea, it requires listening closely, looking deeper, and making space for the whole person. Years later, what continues to move her most is watching someone who once felt hopeless begin to regain stability, rediscover confidence, and see possibility in their life again.

Her Approach
Empathetic, holistic, collaborative care
Rabea describes her approach in three words: empathetic, holistic, and collaborative. She wants the people she cares for to have a voice in their treatment and to know that their experiences, culture, circumstances, and goals matter. Her work brings together evidence-based psychiatric care with an understanding of the emotional, physical, and social pieces of a person's life, creating care that is individualized rather than one-size-fits-all.
Rabea's perspective has been shaped by the many different spaces in which she has learned to care for people. As a foreign medical graduate with experience spanning psychiatric nursing, clinical research, academic and inpatient settings, and advanced psychiatric practice, she has learned to see people through more than one lens. But beneath all of that experience is something much simpler: she wants people to feel safe enough to ask for help and know they will be met without judgment. Reducing the shame and stigma surrounding mental health care is deeply important to her, particularly for people and communities where those conversations have historically been difficult to have.
Outside of the clinic, Rabea loves cooking, traveling, discovering new places, and experiencing different cultures through food. She spent more than a decade living in Wichita, Kansas, an experience that helped shape her appreciation for different communities and perspectives. Her greatest joy, though, is her son. Watching him grow and celebrating the milestones, big and small, reminds her of what matters most.
Rabea believes some of the most meaningful changes begin quietly, a little more stability, a little more confidence, the first glimpse of hope after a period of despair. She knows healing does not always happen all at once. Sometimes it begins when someone feels understood, believes there may still be a way forward, and is met with a little kindness along the way.
The Light sHe Hopes You Find
“Be kind. You never truly know what someone else has been through or what they may be going through in the moment. A little compassion can make a meaningful difference in someone's day, or even their life.”
